Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Rockhurst Jesuit
This evening, the CMA VAarsity Lacrosse hosted Rockhurst Jesuit for a Friday night game under the lights on Oliver Field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee. What a game it was! I think that some higher power must have know that it was Parent’s Weekend for Culver Academies because things couldn’t have worked out better for Culver. For starters, it rained hard before the game. I actually waited in car trying to decide if I wanted to risk getting my gear wet. The closer we got to the 7:00 PM start time, the lighter the rain got. Protecting my camera with a Storm Jacket, I decided to brave the cold and rain, and headed onto the field with a few minutes to spare. Within 5 minutes of the game starting, the rain completely ended. (On another note, the rain started up again within 15 muntes of the game ending.)
Enough about the weather. The game was interesting to say the least. Rockhurst Jesuit played hard and fast and quickly managed a 5-0 lead. Things were looking grim for the CMA Eagles. Our team looked slow and passive. In the second quarter, with three or four minutes left, Culver’s coach called a timeout after 2 or 3 quick scores by Rockhurst. I don’t know what was said, but the team that took to the field afterwards was a different team. Culver was aggressive and probably had 15 shots on Rockhurst’s goal in those last minutes of the first half. One scored ending the half at 1-to-5.
During the halftime break, I commented to someone near me that if Culver could play as well in the second half as they did the the last 3 minutes of the first half, we actually had a chance. In the sceond half, Culver did play that well or even better. Culver came back from a 1-to-5 deficit to a 9-to-5 lead. The final score was Culver 9, Rockhurst Jesuit 6. They say, “Never give up,” and that’s what the Culver Eagles obviously believed on this day.
