CGA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Homestead
On May 12th, I managed to photograph the first game of the Girl’s State Lacrosse playoffs as CGA played Homestead at Culver Academies. The Culver girls played really well and proved why they’re always one of the leading teams in the State Tournament. They easily won with a score of 14-to-2.

Indiana Lacrosse Photos: Culver Academy Varsity vs. South Bend St. Joseph
Friday night, the Culver Academies Varsity Lacrosse team hosted South Bend St. Joseph’s Lacrosse team for an evening game played on Oliver Field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee. The weather was nice and the lighting was good for getting some great action photos. With the sun starting to set, I managed to get some cool colors and neat shadows. As expected, the CMA Eagle played well, easily winning 12-to-2.
Before the game started, Culver honored their Seniors with Senior Ceremony, which is now a tradition with all of the sports.
I’ve posted some of my favorite photos here. There are several other photos and photos from the Senior Ceremony located at:
Indiana Sports Photography: CMA Intersquad Lacrosse
To wrap up the Culver Academy’s Parent’s Weekend, the CMA Lacrosse teams played an interquad game on their field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee. The weather was nice, the kids played hard, and a good sized crowd cheered them on. It was a lot of fun and a great way to end a big weekend. The game was a high scoring game with no dominate side, as the teams were picked by the team captains. After each goal, the teams performed little routines that could be best described as “excessive celebration,” which had the fans laughing. I can tell you this–Culver won. Beyond that, I’m sorry that I wasn’t paying close enough attention to say whether Maroon or White won. Regardless, it was fun and something more teams should do in their off seasons. Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA JV Lacrosse vs. Brebeuf
Sorry that I’m a little late in posting this entry. Between a computer failure and 9 shoots involving over 3,000 photos this weekend, I’m little behind schedule. On Saturday, the Culver Eagles JV Lacrosse team and the JV team from Brebeuf out of Indianapolis played a tough game, braving some very cold weather. The weather didn’t seem to slow the Eagles down. CMA easily won, although Brebeuf did manage to give Culver’s defense some action, which was a change for me. Lately, I’ve seen only the offensive end of the lacrosse field for JV and Varsity. This was the second game of the day for the JV team, and though I’m sure they were feeling the effects of the first game, they won the game without a problem. I’ve posted some photos here. In the third lacrosse game played yesterday, the CMA varsity team played against Brebeuf High School. It was a freezing, windy, cold day. (I had on two pairs of socks, long johns, gloves, ear muffs, and my heavy jacket that I thought I’d put away for the winter.) Did someone forget to tell Mother Nature that this is the middle of May?!
Once again, Culver dominated the game with little action on their defensive end. The final score was 17 to 1 (15 points were scored in the first half). The action on the offensive side provided some great opportunities for shots on the goal. I’ve posted some photos here. Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CGA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Sacred Heart
This morning started with a lacrosse game between the CGA Varsity Lacrosse team and the Sacred Heart team. It was cold! Thought I had on three layers and gloves, I couldn’t feel my feet or hands by the time the game was over. I felt bad for the girls as they were obviously struggling to stay warm when not running on the field.
The lacrosse team from Sacred Heart is a very good team that provided a challenge for Culver and made for a fun game to watch. Sacred Heart started off by scoring early. Culver answered by scroring two quick goals in less than a minute. After that, Culver stayed strong and maintained a multiple-point lead. This continued until midway through the second half when Culver started to struggle a bit. Sacred Heart tied up the game in the last 10 minutes of the game, and they ultimately won by one goal. The final score was 8 to 9.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Cathedral High School
Last night, I watched and photographed half of the CMA Varsity Lacrosse game against Cathedral High School, which is from my hometown of Indianapolis. Everyone thought that it was going to be a great game because Cathedral has always been a tough competitor for Culver in the past. It didn’t turn out to be a close game. The final score was 20-something points to only a few. Cathedral never gave up, but Culver Academies dominated on the offensive end. I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I’ll say it again: Culver’s Lacrosse program is a powerhouse that few midwestern teams can compete against. I’m sorry that most of my photos are of the offensive line, but the defense didn’t get much action. I’ve posted some photos here. Others are located at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_7_10_cmalacrosse.
Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CGA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Zionsville
Last night, the Culver Girls Academy Lacrosse team hosted Zionsville High School. Like the Varsity Men’s team, the girls dominated their game, though the Zionsville team played a tough game. I think the final score for this game was 13-4 with the lady Eagles winning. Ginny likes the shots of the girls, as she says, “they look fierce.” Ginny was an athlete at Culver but never got to play lacrosse, as it wasn’t a sport at Culver in our days there, but I know she would have loved it. She was into running at Culver and involved in sports that required speed and fierceness (basketball and soccer). So, to the girls of lacrosse, a former athlete at Culver thinks you are fierce. Keep that fierceness all the way to state! You can find more pictures of this game at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_7_10_cgalacrosse.
Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Bishop Leurs
Yesterday, the second lacrosse game was played between the the varsity teams of Bishop Leurs High School and Culver Academy on Culver’s Oliver Field. The CMA varsity went much like the JV game played out earlier in the evening. The Bishop Leurs didn’t play badly. Culver Lacrosse has reached a level that few Midwest teams can compete with. Due to fading light, and the fact that I was only able to get shots of a few players because all of the action was near the other team’s goal, I left at the half. The score was 11 to 0 when I left. I’ve posted some photos here. More are loacted at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_5_10_varsity_lacrosse.
Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CGA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Grosse Pointe
This afternoon, to wind up the Culver Academy Lacrosse Tournament, the CGA Varsity Lacrosse Team played against Grosse Pointe in a scrimmage game. Due to IHSAA regulations, the teams could not keep score because of the number of games that each team had played this week. The weather was great, and both teams appeared to be evenly matched. Not knowing the score, I’m not sure which team played better. Regardless, I think that the score would have been close.
