Culver Hockey Photographs: CMA Varsity vs. Prairie Ridge High School
On Friday night, the CMA Varsity hockey team played Prairie Ridge High School from Illinois. Having lost to this team 4 of the 5 times they played one another last year, the game was expected to be quite close and exciting. The players did not disappoint their fans. The game was filled with a lot of action and great play, and Culver pulled off the victory with a win of 4 to 2. I’ve posted some photos here. Additional photos are located at:
Indiana Hockey Photographer: CMA Varsity vs. Penn High School
Last night, the CMA Varsity Hockey Team played against Penn High School’s U19 Hockey Team on Culver Academy’s campus in the Henderson Ice Rink. The CMA Eagles played very well, easily winning 6-0. There were a good deal of penalties throughout the game on both teams. One of these days, I’ll understand what those are, but for now, I have to plead ignorance.
Overall, I’m finding the lighting at the rink to be lacking for ideal photos, but I’ve been editing these in a different way than I did last year, and I like the results much better. Using a low-light lens and high ISO setting helps, but I’d love it if the ice would cooperate with me. I guess you can’t have it all. Enjoy the pictures. Some of you might recognize Dustin Cowell, a friend of ours whose dad Danny works at the Academy. Amber Cowell is in some of the CGA hockey pictures. Both of them are great athletes and it’s a lot of fun getting their pictures!

Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CGA U19 Hockey vs. Ohio Flames
This weekend, the CGA U19 Hockey team hosting a tournament with 6 teams competing on Culver Academy’s campus. Shown below are some photos from the first game that featured Culver playing against the Ohio Flames. It was a great game, even though the girls could not pull off a win. Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CGA U19 Hockey vs. Traverse City
The second hockey game of the afternoon was the CGA U19 team that played against Traverse City. The girls played well with the CGA team dominating the entire game. I’m not sure what the final score was, but with three minutes left in the game, Culver was up by 8 goals. I’ve posted some photos here; you can find more in the Culver Academies sports gallery at www.culverphotos.com.
Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CMA Prep Hockey vs. Lansing Capitals
After defeating the Lansing Capitals hockey team last night 5 to 1, the Culver Prep hockey team did not do as well today. They lost in a close, hard faught game. The final score was 3 to 2. The game was fast paced with some excellent plays, though the Lansing Capitals proved to learn from their mistakes from the previous night. I’ve posted some of my favorite photos here, but please www.culverphotos.com for more photos from this game or other Culver Academy photos and hockey games.
Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CMA Varsity Hockey vs. NW Chargers
Today, I took photos of Culver Academy’s Boy’s Varsity Hockey team as they played the NW Chargers. This was the second match up of these teams during the weekend, though I was shooting a different hockey match last night when they played. As an observer who has never played hockey, I’m not the best judge of whether a team is playing well or not. Unfortunately, the team lost by more than a couple of points. I still managed to get some great shots using my new D300s that I purchased a couple of days ago. I’ve posted my favorite photos here; there are more hockey photos and Culver photos at www.culverphotos.com.
Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CGA U19 Hockey vs. C.Y.A
Today, I shot photos for the Culver Academy Girls U19 Hockey Team; they played against C.Y.A. It was a great game. The CGA team took an early lead that they held the entire game. The girls did better than the last game that I shot at staying out of the penalty box, which was a key facor in winning the game. The final score was Culver- 3, CYA-2. I’ve posted some photos here, though there are more located at www.culverphotos.com.
Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CMA Varsity Hockey vs. Prairie Ridge High School
This morning, the CMA Eagle’s Varsity Hockey Team played their second game against the Prairie Ridge High School Hockey Team. Plagued by penalties and up against a team that used the previous night’s loss to refresh, regenerate, and relight their passion, the Culver Academy Eagles did not fair well. I don’t know if the Prairie Ridge team studied the tapes from last night or if their desire to win was just that strong. Regardless, they played well and capitalized on CMA’s penalties. The final score was CMA-1, Prairie Ridge-5. I’ve posted some photos here; there are 200 more at www.culverphotos.com. Look under the Culver Academy/Culver Sports section.

This evening, the CMA Eagle’s Varsity Hockey Team hosted the Prairie Ridge High School hockey team for their first home game of the season. The game started out on a possitive note with the Culver Eagles scoring early in the game followed by another goal a few minutes later. The first period ended with a score of Culver 2, Prairie Ridge 0. The second period proved to be a challenge for Culver with Culver giving up 2 points. The period ended with a tie score. Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CGA U19 Hockey vs. Victory Honda
This afternoon was the second game of the weekend that Culver’s CGA U19 Hockey team played against Victory Honda at Culver Academy’s Henderson Ice Rink. Both teams played agressively. Victory won the game 5 to 3. I’ve posted some of my favorite photos here. There are several hundred more located at www.culverphotos.com.
On a side note, the girl on the opposing team that went to the hospital in yesterday’s game has been released. I spoke with her today and she is sore and is planning on taking some time to rest, but she expects to be playing again soon. I’m sure that I speak for everyone in that we’re glad she’ll make a full recovery.
