Culver Academy Polo Photos: CGA Varsity Polo vs. University of Michigan

Another exciting polo game on Culver Academy’s campus. This morning, the CGA Varsity Polo team played a second game against the women’s polo team from the University of Michigan. It is a fun game to watch though unlike last night’s game, the CGA Eagles didn’t do as well. The University of Michigan team started strong and took an early lead that the Eagles never came back from. I think the Eagles took a few minutes to get into their groove, whereas the Michigan team started with theirs. The final score was Culver-9 and University of Michigan- 12. I’ve posted some photos here; you can find several more at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Academy Polo Photos: CGA Polo vs. University of Michigan

Polo is back! For those who don’t know me, I was in Troop A when I attended Culver Academy. 20+ years later, I’m still a trooper at heart and love photographing horses. Tonight, the CGA Varsity Polo team hosted the girls polo team from the University of Michigan. Adding to my excitement of being a Friday and the first Polo game of the season is the fact that I shot tonight using a brand new Nikon D300s that arrived today. I was an anxious mess all afternoon waiting for the game. Just ask my wife. I couldn’t sit still.

Both teams played well with the CGA team taking an early lead, which they held the entire first half. During the second half, the University of Michigan team dominated. They held the lead until half way through the 4th quater. The Culver girls came back and ended up winning 11 to 9. I’ve posted some photos here; you can find several more at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Academy Basketball Photos: CMA Varsity Basketball vs. St. Joe

Tonight, I photographed a scrimmage between Culver Acadmey and St. Joseph High School’s Varsity Basketball team. I must say, I have a lot to learn about how scimmages are played. I watched four periods and left confused as I didn’t know if anyone won because the score was reset  to zero at the end of each period. I posted some photos here; there are more at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Academy Basketball Photos: CGA Varsity Basketball vs. John Glenn

Today, the CGA Varsity Basketball Team played John Glenn High School at Culver Academy. The girls fought hard, but never got the upper hand. During the last quarter, the Eagles closed the score gap to within a few points, but the final score was Culver 48 and  John Glenn 55. I’ve posted some photos here; find more at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Academy Basketball Photos: CGA JV Basketball vs. John Glenn

I don’t know how much more I can take of close games after the Colts game on Sunday. (Sorry everyone, I live in Indiana and am a huge Colts fan.) The CGA JV Basketball team hosted John Glenn this evening and I found myself on the edge of my seat and feeling the same emotions that I felt a couple of nights ago during the football game. After trailing most of the game, the lady Eagles came back and tied the game with 46 seconds left in the game. With 20 seconds left, they scored. The final score: Culver-31 and John Glenn- 27. That is two wins in a row for the CGA JV Basketball team! You can find more photos at www.culverphotos.com.dsc_2513

Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CMA Varsity Hockey vs. Carmel

Some things never change! 25 years ago, the Carmel Hockey teams were a big rival for the Culver Hockey program and it appears that the same still holds true. Carmel proved to be a tough competitor for the CMA Varsity Hockey Team at today’s home game, but the CMA Eagles emerged victorious. The final score was Culver-4 and Carmel-2. In all fairness to Carmel, the score should have been 3 to 2 as one of Culver’s points occured on a pass back on Carmel’s part to their goalie who either sliped or misread the pass, allowing a slow-moving puck to get by him. As thankful as everyone was on Culver’s side for the point, the coaches, the fans, and the players felt compassion for the young man because it was an accident that shouldn’t have resulted in a score. I’ve posted some of my favorite photos from the game here. You can find more at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Academy Basketball Photos: CGA Varsity Basketball vs. Peru

Tonight, the CGA Girl’s Varsity Basketball team played their firt home game of the season against Peru. It was a fast-paced game in which you never knew what was going to happen next. The score was all over the place with no team dominating. I apologize for not having the exact scores but every few minutes, one of the teams was up by 5 to 11 points. A few minutes later the other was up by that same number of points. Just when you thought Culver had the game in the bag, the tide would turn and you’d get uncomfortable with how the game was going. Peru eventually clinched the win. I’ve posted some photos here; there are more located at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Academy Basketball Photos: CGA JV Basketball vs. Peru

What a great game! Tonight, the CGA basketball teams hosted Peru high School for their first home games of the 2009-2010 season. In this game, the JV team played hard and trailed most of the game. With 40 seconds left in the game, the CGA Eagles were down by 2 points. Culver scored the tying point with 34 seconds remaining and the winning point with 14 seconds left in the game. The final score was Culver- 23, Peru- 21. I’ve posted some photos here; there are more photographs at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Indiana Family Photographer: Christiansen Photo Shoot

Today, Ginny and I did a photoshoot of the Christiansen family: Kurt, Pamela, Jack, and Sarah. We took pictures on Culver Academy’s campus and down by the lake. In one picture, it looks like 16-month old Sarah is directing the shoot. She was actually very shy, so it’s kind of fun to see that shot of her looking in charge. We had a blast taking pictures of the kids. They are curious, high-energy, and very sweet children. Jack is into sports and looks like an athlete already. You can see his football in the pictures. And as Ginny pointed out, he’s really fast. Sarah was a little bit worried about the strange man and woman taking her picture, but she warmed up after awhile.

While shooting near the senior ring, we saw the rough riding team practicing. The kids were fascinated by the horses, so we took a few pictures of them watching. Ginny got down on the ground to get some eye-level shots and close-ups. It was hard to get the group photos for this shoot, as Sarah is a little freaked out by the cameras, but boy, when she smiles, she’s the cutest child. We had a great time and hope to take more pictures as Sarah and Jack grow. Ginny and I thought they had great personalities, so we look forward to seeing them grow up.

Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CMA Varsity Hockey vs. Prairie Ridge High School

This morning, the CMA Eagle’s Varsity Hockey Team played their second game against the Prairie Ridge High School Hockey Team. Plagued by penalties and up against a team that used the previous night’s loss to refresh, regenerate, and relight their passion, the Culver Academy Eagles did not fair well. I don’t know if the Prairie Ridge team studied the tapes from last night or if their desire to win was just that strong. Regardless, they played well and capitalized on CMA’s penalties. The final score was CMA-1, Prairie Ridge-5. I’ve posted some photos here; there are 200 more at www.culverphotos.com.
