Culver Academy Soccer Photos: CGA JV Soccer vs. West Lafayette

It was a beautiful day for a home soccer game on the Culver Academy campus. The sun was shinning and I was comfortable in shorts and a short-sleeve shirt. I’d like to hope that weather like today will continue, but I suspect that the days when shorts are comfortable will not be around for long.

I did, however, make a poor choice in clothing color. For those who know me or who have seen me at games, most know that red is a favorite color of mine. What can I say, I like wearing my red wind breaker to events as it is loose and has large pockets. The bright color has also prevented me from getting hit on more than one occassion. Today, in addition to my red windbreaker, I also had on a red polo shirt. As you can probably tell from the pictures, I probably should not have worn red. Believe it not, it actually took a few minutes for some Eagle’s parents to talk to me as they thought that I was supporting the other team.

The girls played a great game, but they didn’t win. After 80 minutes of intense play, the final score was Eagles-0, West Lafeyette-1. I’ve posted a few pictures here, but there are many more at www.culverphotos.com.

I must admit that I do not know what the final score of this game ended up being. Like so many busy Saturdays, I spent the day running around between events trying to get as many photos as I could instead of focusing on one particular game.

I can say this about the game- The Culver Academy’s JV Soccer team played their hearts out. I doubt though, that this was good enough. The team that they were playing against was good. Really good! I suspect that most High School Varsity teams would have struggled against this JV team. In fact, I had to ask someone near me if this was indeed a JV game as I thought that ther had been a last-minute change in the schedule. Watching the game, it was very clear they the kids on the opposing team have played togethr as teammates for many years.

Culver Academy Football Photos: CMA Varsity Football vs. Brebeuf

It is a proud day to be an Eagle. This evening the Culver Academy Eagles varsity football team hosted Brebeuf High School. The Eagles played a great game and won the game with a final score of 28 to 13. The highlight of the game was when Culver returned a kick for a touchdown after allowing Brebeuf’s first score. This quickly quieted Berbeuf’s crowd. Both teams played a hard-fought game with some great passes, blocking, and running. As hard as the opposing team fought, I thought it would have been an even closer game, but Culver’s defense didn’t give much up. Ginny sat in the stands for a few minutes of the game and commented on how involved the crowd was in the game. It was a great game! To see more photos, visit www.culverphotos.com.

The CMA varsity soccer team played another home game at Culver Academy this afternoon against Concord High School. It was a great game to watch, but unfortunately Culver Academy lost 0-3. You can tell these kids have to be flexible and in shape to play soccer. I tried to get shots that reflect their athleticism. For more pictures, see the gallery at www.culverphotos.com.

Culver Academy Volleyball Photos: CGA Freshman Volleyball at Culver Academy

The CGA Girl’s Freshman Volleyball team played a great match on Thursday night. I regret that I was only able to watch the first two games. They won both games. The first game was an easy win, but the second game turned out to be a nail biter with a very close score. Though the girls have only been playing together for a few weeks, I think they played well as team. I’m curious to see how they did against the second school they were scheduled to play. I’m looking forward to catching more games in the future. I’ve posted the rest of the photos at www.culverphotos.com.

Indiana Photographer: Martin 50-Year Anniversary Party

This past weekend, while I was in Vegas, Ginny did a photoshoot in Indianapolis for her sister Angie. Angie, her husband Darin, her brother in-law David, and David’s fiance Kerry Ann hosted a 50-year anniversary party for Angie’s in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Judy Martin. The Martins are from Knightstown, Indiana. Their 50-year anniversary party was held at the famous Hoosier Gymnasium. This is where the movie The Hoosiers was filmed.

Ginny went down to help her sister prepare for the party on Friday (they did the decorating), and then she took pictures of the event on Saturday. Ginny said it took her an hour to find settings that would work with the unusual lighting in the building. There were lights that had to heat up hanging from the ceiling, and there was natural light coming through windows that were high up above the bleachers. Ginny said, “This gym was incredibly beautiful from the standpoint of vintage 50s. It was the perfect place for a 50s party, which was the theme of the party, but it was really difficult figuring out the lighting situation.” She said that getting unobstructed shots of all the guests while they enjoyed the party was also difficult, as there were a lot of people and a lot of decorations. However, she also mentioned that the music was fantastic and she enjoyed watching people as they enjoyed the 50s atmosphere. They had an ice cream bar that was a huge hit. And, as you can see, some of the guests dressed the part for the party. Ginny says that as usual, she found the kids at the party and couldn’t resist taking some pictures of them. I like the shot of Carl and his grandchild Lucy, our niece.

We met the Martins when Angie and Darin got married. They are as kind in person as they look in their photos. Ginny said that there was a lot of love in that old gym. She picked a selection of pictures from the evening. Happy Anniversary, Carl and Judy!

Culver Indiana Children Photographer: Sisters Eliza and Avery

Today, Ginny and I had the pleasure of photographing Wendy and Alan Loehr’s beautiful daughters Eliza and Avery. We met up with the Loehrs at their home and spent about an hour and half with the charming Eliza and sweet, happy Avery. Ginny kept calling Avery the happy naked baby. She did seem happy to wear her birthday suit for some of our shots.

We haven’t had time to sort through all of the pictures, nor have we cropped/edited them, but we wanted to post some so that Alan and Wendy could get a sneak peak. I’m going to Vegas for a bachelor party, so I will have to post more pictures later.

Eliza was a lot of fun to work with and responded well to having two strangers with a lot of equipment and flashes come in and interrupt her play time. She stole our hearts with her beautiful eyes and playful disposition. And her baby sister Avery seems to love her big sister. Here are a few photographs of these beautiful sisters, and I’ve put one in of their very kind mom.

Culver Academy Soccer Photos: Rainy Afternoon For Soccer

Things do not always work out as planned. Today, I was intending on shooting both Culver Academy JV and Varsity Soccer games followed by the CGA Varsity soccer game. The weather had other plans for the afternoon. The first game started on time despite the pouring rain. Three and a half minutes into the game, the game was stopped for 30 minutes because of thunder. Once the game resumed, the teams played for another 20-30 minutes before being called again for thunder. At this point, I’m not sure if the game was canceled or delayed. Between being cold from the rain and there no longer being any natural light, I decided to call it a night and head home. I’ve posted some additional photos at www.culverphotos.com, though I wasn’t able to get as many as I had hoped.

Indiana Children Photography: Lucy and Her High Tops

What can I say? I can’t resist taking pictures of Lucy when we are around her. Even with crusted food on her face, she is cute. I know that the settings and backgrounds were not ideal but she is still a fun child to shoot. On this particular day, she was so proud as she had just received new pink high top tennis shoes.

Tonight was a good night for the Eagles. With a score of 50+ to 0 at the half, it was obvious that the Eagles were on fire. Ginny and I spent most of the evening on the Eagle’s offensive end, as they scored one goal after another.

For the second half, the coaches decided to play some of the JV players. It was nice seeing some kids on the field who don’t always get to play varsity, and they did their team proud. As with all of the evening games, lighting was not on our side and caused many shooting problems. Ginny says that we need to get the best lens made for action or she will start taking pictures of the fans who aren’t usually in motion. I wouldn’t be opposed to that (getting another lens)! We had a full moon on this particular evening, so Ginny took a few shots of the cheerleaders with the full moon in the background. We’ve posted our best at www.culverphotos.com. Here is a selection of some of my favorite action shots. Go Eagles!
