Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CGA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Barrington

This evening, as part of a lacrosse tournament on Culver Academy’s campus, the CGA Varsity Lacrosse team played Barrington. The game started at around 7:30 so most of it was played under stadium lighting in dusk and early darkfall, which limited the quality of shots.

Barrington played well and took an early lead that was held for the first half of the game. In the second half, Culver came back to win the game with a final score of 6 to 4. It was a great game that was exicting and fun to watch. Both teams should be proud, as the win could have gone in either direction.

I’ve posted some photos here. More photos are located at http://www.culverphotos.com/p556949779.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Rockhurst Jesuit

This evening, the CMA VAarsity Lacrosse hosted Rockhurst Jesuit for a Friday night game under the lights on Oliver Field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee. What a game it was! I think that some higher power must have know that it was Parent’s Weekend for Culver Academies because things couldn’t have worked out better for Culver. For starters, it rained hard before the game. I actually waited in car trying to decide if I wanted to risk getting my gear wet. The closer we got to the 7:00 PM start time, the lighter the rain got. Protecting my camera with a Storm Jacket, I decided to brave the cold and rain, and headed onto the field with a few minutes to spare. Within 5 minutes of the game starting, the rain completely ended. (On another note, the rain started up again within 15 muntes of the game ending.)

Enough about the weather. The game was interesting to say the least. Rockhurst Jesuit played hard and fast and quickly managed a 5-0 lead. Things were looking grim for the CMA Eagles. Our team looked slow and passive. In the second quarter, with three or four minutes left, Culver’s coach called a timeout after 2 or 3 quick scores by Rockhurst. I don’t know what was said, but the team that took to the field afterwards was a different team. Culver was aggressive and probably had 15 shots on Rockhurst’s goal in those last minutes of the first half. One scored ending the half at 1-to-5.

During the halftime break, I commented to someone near me that if Culver could play as well in the second half as they did the the last 3 minutes of the first half, we actually had a chance. In the sceond half, Culver did play that well or even better. Culver came back from a 1-to-5 deficit to a 9-to-5 lead. The final score was Culver 9, Rockhurst Jesuit 6. They say, “Never give up,” and that’s what the Culver Eagles obviously believed on this day.

Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA JV Baseball vs. Argos high School

This morning, the CMA Eagles hosted Argos High School in a double header JV Baseball game at Culver. It was a beautiful day, though the bright sun caused some problems for the outfielders. Both teams played well and appeared to be evenly matched. I’ve posted some photos here; there are more at http://www.culverphotos.com/p327818835.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Westfield

After several away games, the CMA Eagles Varsity Lacrosse team hosted the lacrosse team of Westfield High School. It was a beautiful day, though a little chilly, and the game was played on the Academy Football field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee. Culver Academy dominated the entire game with an easy win over Westfield High School. The final score with Culver-15 Westfield-4. If Culver plays this well the rest of the season, they should easily place at the State Tournament in May. Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA JV Baseball vs. Boone Grove

Tonight, the Culver Academy Eagles played JV Baseball  against Boone Grove High School. Due to another game and fading light, I was unable to watch the entire game. What I did see was an exciting game against two evenly matched teams. I’ve posted some photos here; there are many more at http://www.culverphotos.com/p472805251.

Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA Varsity Baseball vs. CCHS

This evening, there was a Varsity Baseball game between the CMA Eagles and Culver Community High School teams at the CCHS field.  The Eagles started strong and lead for the parts of the game that I was able to watch. They played well as a team, but the Culver Community players hung in there. I’ve posted some photos here, but there are several more of both teams at http://www.culverphotos.com/p540118813.

Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA Varsity Baseball vs. Morgan Township

Tonight, the 2010 baseball season began at Culver Academy with the first home game against Morgan Township. The weather was a little deceiving with the temperature being cooler than it appeared, but this didn’t seem to bother either team. The Culver Academy Eagles seemed to struggle in the beginning, but they started coming together as the game progressed. For those unfamilar with Culver, the kids returned from a long Spring Break (over 2 weeks) just 7 days ago. Unlike many of the schools that Culver plays, the Culver baseball team did not continue to practice over the vacation. Knowing this, I think the team played well. I’m not sure what the final score was, as I left once the light started being prohibitive for shooting but when I left, Culver was gaining ground. Culver Academy Hockey Photos: CMA U16 Hockey vs. Mercer Chiefs

What a long weekend for the CMA U16 hockey team! Today was the fourth and final game for Culver Academy Eagles in their Christmas break Invitational Tournament. I feel sorry for all the teams having had to play four games in a weekend, but I feel especially bad for the Culver boys because Chirstmas vacation started for their classmates four days ago.

Culver Academy ended the weekend in the 3rd and 4th place brakets against the Mercer Chiefs who they played yesterday morning and lost to. Watching today’s game, I remembered how much fun these two teams were to watch against each other. Both teams played hard and showed great sportsmanship with very few fouls throughout the game. If I recall, Culver only had 2 or 3 penalities the entire game and there were times when the game would continue for 3-4 minutes without any whistle. It truly was fun to watch.

Having lost yesterday, Culver played well and dominated the entire game, bringing home a win. I’m proud of Culver, but the Chiefs still need to be recognized for their play. There are a few things about the Chiefs that I feel should be pointed out. First off, I believe that they were the smallest team to play in the tournament with only 12 kids. If you think about it, that is 216 minutes of hard, tournament play spread across 12 players. Secondly, due to concerns about the impending weather conditions, their goalie left last night or this morning and did not play in today’s game. Instead, their backup goalie played who did a great job. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Culver fan through and through. But, in today’s win, I don’t feel that it is appropriate to gloat. The Chiefs did a great job. I’ve posted my favorite photos here; there over 300 more at http://www.culverphotos.com/p912711270.
