Indiana Hockey Photography: CMA vs. Shattuck
This past weekend, the Culver Academies Hockey teams hosted their long-time rivals from Shattuck St. Mary’s at Culver. Both the U16 team and the Prep team played Shattuck’s correpsonding teams twice over the weekend with games on Saturday and Sunday. Due to prior commitments, I was only able to photograph the Saturday night games.
In both the U16 game and the Prep team game, Culver played their hearts out. The games were some of the best action and fastest moving that I’ve witnessed at a High School level. Unfortunately, Shattuck St. Mary’s proved that their #1 rank in the country is well deserved as they won both games. Culver did prove to be worthy opponents, though they were not able to pull out a vistory.

What a busy weekend! In attending 3 hockey games, a horse show, Vespers, and the Vespers Reception, I shot over 3,000 photos this past weekend. On Friday night, the CMA Varsity hockey team hosted Evansville at Culver Academy. The CMA Eagles played well and easily won another game. The game was fun and exciting to watch, though Evansville struggled against Culver. I’ve posted some of my favorite photos here. There are additional photos posted at:

Indiana Hockey Photographer: CMA Varsity vs. Penn High School
Last night, the CMA Varsity Hockey Team played against Penn High School’s U19 Hockey Team on Culver Academy’s campus in the Henderson Ice Rink. The CMA Eagles played very well, easily winning 6-0. There were a good deal of penalties throughout the game on both teams. One of these days, I’ll understand what those are, but for now, I have to plead ignorance.
Overall, I’m finding the lighting at the rink to be lacking for ideal photos, but I’ve been editing these in a different way than I did last year, and I like the results much better. Using a low-light lens and high ISO setting helps, but I’d love it if the ice would cooperate with me. I guess you can’t have it all. Enjoy the pictures. Some of you might recognize Dustin Cowell, a friend of ours whose dad Danny works at the Academy. Amber Cowell is in some of the CGA hockey pictures. Both of them are great athletes and it’s a lot of fun getting their pictures!

Indiana Hockey Photographer: CGA Varsity vs. Traverse City
This past weekend, Ginny had to do a lot of editing work, so went to my first hockey game of the season. Due to some recent traveling and a busy schedule, I’m a little late with getting to the winter sports. This past weekend, there were two home hockey games between the CGA Varisty hockey team and Traverse City U19 Girl’s Team. I went to both and enjoyed photographing the CGA girls who played great games and won both of them.

Indiana Sports Photography: CMA Eagles Varsity Football vs. Andrean
Last night, the CMA Eagles varsity Football team hosted Andrean at Culver Academies for the second Sectionals game of the post-season tournament. As some may recall, Andrean was the team that ended Culver’s tournament run last year. Unfortunately, they were able to do the same this year. Culver suffered some injuries in the first half, but played their hearts despite the loss of some of their key players. The opposing team appeared to have two or three times more kids on their team than Culver. I think they could have fielded three teams. Ginny and I hope the kids who were injured are doing better, and if not, we hope for speedy recoveries. I’ve posted some photos here. Others are located at:

Indiana Sports Photographer: CMA Varsity Football vs. Knox High School
What a great way to for CMA to start their their post-season tournamanet! On Friday night of last week, the CMA Eagles played Knox High School in Knox and won! The Culver Academy Eagles started the game by scoring on their first pocession. After that, Culver’s offense and defence dominated the game. For the record, when Knox played well, they played really well and proved to be a tough opponent. Fortunately for Culver, Knox struggled and never quite came together as a team, allowing Culver to advance in the playoffs. The final score, Culver- 28 and Knox-13. I’ve posted some photos here. Indiana Sports Photographer: CMA Football vs. Fairfield
On Friday night, the Culver Academy Eagles proved that you can’t always believe what people say about a team. The statistics, the newspapers, and the general consensus were that Culver couldn’t win their Varsity Football game against Fairfield High School. Fortunately for Culver’s sake, no one affiliated with the CMA football program paid attention to the speculation. Playing against a much larger squad with a better record, the Culver Eagles showed up to play. And play they did! Culver played their hearts out and Fairfield was the team that made some crutial mistakes that lead Culver to an easy win. The final score was Culver- 40 and Fairfield- 13. Indiana Sports Photography: CMA Intersquad Lacrosse
To wrap up the Culver Academy’s Parent’s Weekend, the CMA Lacrosse teams played an interquad game on their field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee. The weather was nice, the kids played hard, and a good sized crowd cheered them on. It was a lot of fun and a great way to end a big weekend. The game was a high scoring game with no dominate side, as the teams were picked by the team captains. After each goal, the teams performed little routines that could be best described as “excessive celebration,” which had the fans laughing. I can tell you this–Culver won. Beyond that, I’m sorry that I wasn’t paying close enough attention to say whether Maroon or White won. Regardless, it was fun and something more teams should do in their off seasons. Indiana Sports Photography: CMA Varsity Soccer vs. Argos High School
In the second game of the evening, the Culver Varsity Soccer Team played Argos High School at Culver Academies. The CMA Eagles played well, but some struggles in the first half put them too far behind to overcome Argos in the second half. With a couple of scores late in the second half, Culver showed promise and heart. The final score was Culver-2 Argos-3. I’ve posted some photos here. Others are located at:

Indiana Sports Photography: CMA JV Soccer vs. Argos High School
Yesterday, the first soccer game of the day played on Culver Academies’ campus was between the JV teams teams from CMA and Argos High School. It was a fun game to watch as neither team dominated the game. The ball spent equal time on both ends of the field. Ultimately, Culver Military Academy did win. The final score: Culver-3, Argos-0.
