Culver Invitational Cross Country Meet
This past weekend, Culver Academies hosted their annual cross country invitational on campus. I don’t know how the runners focus on their race when part of the race path goes along the beautiful shores of Lake Maxinkuckee. I think I’d have to stop and take it all in, but these young people have a way of staying focused. The invitational has grown over the years into one of the largest cross country events in the Midwest with over 3,000 runners competing. If you’ve never had the chance to observe it, I’d recommend watching it one of these years. Just seeing the traffic of cars coming into the town and campus was an amazing thing to see. The tournament is an energy-filled day with a lot going on. Seeing all of the colorful tents to mark each team’s “camp” is a sight to behold, as they are all over campus. A BIG, BIG, BIG hats off to Coach Chastain who organizes this event every year. He pulls it off in an organized, safe fashion.
Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell mother nature that this event was going on. The weather did not cooperate. It rained quite hard for a portion of the day, which limited the photos that I was able to get. Between wet gear, water spots on my lens, and a fogged lens, I was unable to get photos from several of the races. However, I did attempt to capture what I could. I have posted some photos here. Friday Night Football: CMA Eagles vs. Brebeuf
What a fun football game last Friday night’s was…or at least it was up until the end. The weather was perfect as it wasn’t too hot or too cold. The cadets looked in step and professional during their march-on. The CMA Eagles were lead onto Oliver Field by the Old Guard who had returned to campus to celebrate a reunion. The Spirit of Culver looked great. (I was a Trooper when I attended Culver so I can appreciate when horses participate in the sports world.) The cheerleaders were energetic and put on some great performances that made for some photo opps with a cool blue sky in the background as the sun went down. During halftime, the Dancevision team performed for the crowd. In the second half of the game, the cheerleaders gave away noise makers to the Eagles fans who added to the excitment of the game. It was a really fun night…except for the score.
The Eagles started off with a bang. They quickly put a 14-to-0 score on the board. Unfortunately, the momentum turned. Culver fought hard all the way to the end, but they couldn’t maintain the lead.
I’ve posted some of the photos here. Other photos are located at:

At the previous link, I’ve created subdirectories from the game to make it easier to locate photos. These include: Game, Cheerleaders, Dancevision, Spirit of Culver, Crowd, Tunnel, and March On.
Indiana Sports Photographer: CMA JV Football vs. New Prairie
Earlier this week, I photographed the CMA JV football team as they hosted a game against New Prairie High School at Culver Academies. I couldn’t stay for the whole game, but the team ended the first half in the lead. I’ve posted some photos here. Additional photos are posted at:
Indiana Sports Photgrapher: CMA Tennis
Earlier this season, I photographed the CMA tennis team as they hosted Chesterton High School at Culver Academies’ Gable Tennis Complex. It was a beautiful day. The CMA Eagles played well. I’ve posted some photos here. Additional photos are located at:
High School Football Photos: Culver Academies vs. Tippecanoe Valley
Sorry everyone. I just realized how far behind on getting entires posted I am. Have patience with me as I attempt to get caught up over the next week.
Last month, I photographed the first home game of the CMA varsity football team as they played their at Oliver Field. It was a beautiful evening, not too hot, not too cold, as Culver Academies hosted Tippecanoe Valley. Culver played well, easily winning 22 to 8. I’ve posted some photos here. CMA Varsity Baseball Photos: Culver Academy vs. North Miami
On Wednesday, the Culver Academy Varsity Baseball team continued its winning streak as the team hosted North Miami High School. The game started slow with North Miami scoring the first few points. However, Culver came together and took control of the game. The final score was Culver-15, North Miami-5.
I’ve posted a few posted here. Other photos from the game are posted at:
Culver Academy JV Lacrosse Photos: CMA vs. South Bend St. Joseph
The CMA JV Lacrosse team hosted the South Bend St. Joseph team at Culver’s Oliver Field. It was a little overcast, which limited the colors that I could get as I shot.
Culver’s JV team played well and won 6-to-4.

CMA Rugby Photos: Culver Academy JV and Varsity vs. Arlington Stallions
I must admit that Rugby is becoming one of my favorite sports to shoot. I’m still not entirely sure what is going on during a game, but with each game, I understand a little more. With Rugby, there is so much action and opportunity for great photos, I find myself looking forward to each game.
The sun was actually shining a few weekends ago as Culver held Varsity and JV games at Fleet Field. The sun, my newest camera, which shoots 10 shots a second, the boys’ new uniforms, the opposing team having bright red in their uniforms, and the grass and trees finally getting some color made for some great photos. I can only imagine how the photos would turn out if Rugby were a Fall Sport played on the field.
Both of Culver’s team played well and really wanted to win. Unfortunately, they were out played by the Arlington Stallions.
I’ve posted my favorite photos here. Sorry. There are a lot of them. Other photos are located at:

Culver Academy Senior Photos: Tom O’Neil
A couple of weeks ago, Ginny and I shot senior pictures of Tom O’Neil. His mom joined us on the shoot. Tom is a laid back guy with a great smile. We had a windy day because of earlier rain, but Tom had patience with getting some shots. I think his mom also promised a nice meal afterward. We had a great time shooting him and wish him all the best when he heads off to Chicago for college.
