Culver Indiana Photography: CCHS Boys Varsity Baseball vs. Elkhart Christian Academy
This afternoon, after catching some photos of the Academy Crew teams practicing, I went to the Culver Community High School to get some photos of the CCHS High School Baseball Team as they played Elkhart Christian Academy. The game started off appearing evenly matched, but Culver Community had a few bad innings and gave up some points to Christian Academy. I left about halfway through the game because the sun was getting lower and my vantage point faced me directly into the sun. I’ve posted some photos here. Others are loacted at www.culverphotos.com/5_6_10_cchsbaseball.
Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA Varsity Baseball vs. West Central
This evening, the CMA Varsity Baseball team played West Central High School on Culver Academies’ campus. After a late start due to bus troubles, the game got started on a beuatiful evening with both teams appearing to be evenly matched. Unfortunately, due to donkey basketball (and yes, I really did say donkey basketball) at the Culver Community High School, I could not stay for very much of the game. I’ve posted some photos here. More photos are located at http://www.culverphotos.com/p105065467.
For anyone interested in my recap from the donkey basketball, please view my blog entry from that event or the photos located at www.culverphotos.com/donkeybasketball.
Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA JV Baseball vs. Argos high School
This morning, the CMA Eagles hosted Argos High School in a double header JV Baseball game at Culver. It was a beautiful day, though the bright sun caused some problems for the outfielders. Both teams played well and appeared to be evenly matched. I’ve posted some photos here; there are more at http://www.culverphotos.com/p327818835.
Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA JV Baseball vs. Boone Grove
Tonight, the Culver Academy Eagles played JV Baseball against Boone Grove High School. Due to another game and fading light, I was unable to watch the entire game. What I did see was an exciting game against two evenly matched teams. I’ve posted some photos here; there are many more at http://www.culverphotos.com/p472805251.
Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA Varsity Baseball vs. CCHS
This evening, there was a Varsity Baseball game between the CMA Eagles and Culver Community High School teams at the CCHS field. The Eagles started strong and lead for the parts of the game that I was able to watch. They played well as a team, but the Culver Community players hung in there. I’ve posted some photos here, but there are several more of both teams at http://www.culverphotos.com/p540118813.
Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CMA Varsity Baseball vs. Morgan Township
Tonight, the 2010 baseball season began at Culver Academy with the first home game against Morgan Township. The weather was a little deceiving with the temperature being cooler than it appeared, but this didn’t seem to bother either team. The Culver Academy Eagles seemed to struggle in the beginning, but they started coming together as the game progressed. For those unfamilar with Culver, the kids returned from a long Spring Break (over 2 weeks) just 7 days ago. Unlike many of the schools that Culver plays, the Culver baseball team did not continue to practice over the vacation. Knowing this, I think the team played well. I’m not sure what the final score was, as I left once the light started being prohibitive for shooting but when I left, Culver was gaining ground. I’ve posted some photos here; there are more at http://www.culverphotos.com/p1040428675.
Culver Academy Baseball Photos: CCHS Varsity Baseball vs. Lacrosse
This morning the Culver Community High School Varsity Baseball Team hosted a double header against Lacrosse High School. The weather was great, though it was a little chilly at the beginning of the game. I wasn’t able to stay for all of the games, but what I did watch proved that the Caveliers will be a tough opponent this season. Following are some photos from the game; there are several more at http://www.culverphotos.com/p808142882.
Culver Indiana Photographer: The Little Leaguers
I was out and about in Culver with my camera. I stopped to shoot this youth baseball game. Shooting kids in this setting is a blast. These kids are at the age that they don’t really know if they are winning or losing yet. They just play to have fun and play their hearts out, they do. It’s fun seeing kids play a sport while they are still learning it. You’d be amazed how well they do listen to the adults. So, be warned adults… kids hear you. Be kind, keep the pressure off, and consider their age when you speak loud enough that they can hear you. As you can see from this selection, kids truly can concentrate on the task at hand.

This game was delayed due to rain, but the kids wanted to play because it was the last season game before playoffs. Baseball is a sport that isn’t easy to shoot, as the action is typically only on the ball. You can end up with a lot of pictures of the pitcher, catcher, and hitter. I enjoy shooting this sport, though, because the camera often catches the ball floating in the scene. Ginny grew up playing second base on a boy’s baseball team, so she loves it when we can shoot the games, as it’s a sport she enjoys watching at the high school level. I met a lot of great, supportive parents while shooting these baseball games. For more baseball shots, see the www.culverphotos.com web site.

For this baseball game, the coach invited me into the dugout to shoot the pictures I captured. Shooting from the dugout is a great experience, as you get much better shots than you would trying to shoot over the fence, and you get to hear the team and coaches interact. You feel as though you are right in the middle of the action. In a few of these photos, you can see where the ball appears to float in the air. I try to get shots in which you can see the ball and the action in the scene. This is a challenge, as the speed of your camera must keep up with the speed of play. I hope you enjoy this selection of these first-rate athletes. Thanks to the coach and team for letting me be part of the dugout. It was an honor.
