Trent Becker Senior Photo Session

One of Ginny’s favorite people in town is Chad Becker, a police officer who works for the town of Culver. A couple of weeks ago, I photographed Chad’s younger brother Trent for his senior photoshoot. Talk about a nice family. Trent was very laid back, friendly, and a lot like his brother. I enjoyed the shoot and hope Trent has a great senior year.

Culver Academy Senior Photos: Morgan Pegg

Last week, Ginny and I went to campus to shoot Morgan Pegg’s senior pictures. Morgan had some great ideas for shots that we hadn’t done before, so we had a good time working with her on this shoot. Morgan was a natural in front of the camera. We will miss seeing her parents around Culver and wish Morgan all the best for her future.

CGA Senior Photos: Sarah Lioce

This past week, Ginny and I went to Culver Academies campus to shoot a senior named Sarah. What was great about this shoot, aside from Sarah’s personality, was that we got to shoot the horse Sarah rides. This took some pre-planning, as we had to be supervised for this part of the shoot (safety reasons), but it was worth it! Sarah also likes black and white shots, so we played around with some black and whites; some emphasize the white highlights and others emphasize the black highlights. Ginny suggested we do a black and white of Sarah approaching us with the horse, as Ginny wasn’t fond of the background, but liked the idea of the approach. It turned out to be one my favorite shots. We also wanted to get the riding hall in the background of a few shots, so we adjusted aperture settings to achieve that with a blur. Sarah also wore her graduation dress for some shots, so we have a great mix of her in this set. I’ve since taken the horse a bag of apples to snack on, as I was grateful for his cooperation.

Culver Academy Photos: Bud Graham

On May 16th, I photographed Culver Academy junior Bud Graham on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee. We got some great photos as the sun was actually shining, adding some color to what has been an overcast sky this Spring. (As I often do, I asked Bud to meet at the Senior Ring. When he arrived, I asked him to stand by one of the pillars in the Ring, to which, he gave me a questioning look. I then recalled that he was a junior and not allowed on the Senior Ring. As an Alumni, you’d think that I’d have remembered that.) Bud was faithful to the Culver tradition and stayed out of the ring.

CMA Senior Photos: Max Terhar

Last week I photographed, CMA senior Max Terhar on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee of Culver Academy’s campus. The sun was actually out and it was a little hot, a pleasant change considering the weather that we’ve had in Northern Indiana this Spring.

Our session was fun and relaxed as I’ve gotten to know Max this past year. He was the captain of Culver’s Prep Hockey Team and is currently the captain of the Varsity Baseball Team. Max is a terrific athlete who will go far with his skills.

Culver Academy Photos: Bryan DeVries

Last week I did a quick formal photo shoot with Culver Academy student Bryan DeVries in Culver’s beautiful Legion Building. This was a quick, fun photo shoot as we were going for a specific shot to match some framed photos of Bryan’s sister and brother that are already hanging in his home.

Indiana Senior Pictures: Colleen

A couple of weeks ago, Ginny and I met up with Colleen, a senior who wanted to have her senior photos taken here in Culver. Colleen was a lot of fun to work with because, as she says, “She likes what is unconventional.” Colleen had some fresh ideas for taking her senior shots, so we let her lead the way. Along the way, we discovered that she’s a brilliant young woman with a bright future. Ginny wanted to try some new shots, too, as she had some black and whites in mind once she heard Colleen liked that style. So, we played around with some new sun shots (believe it or not, it was actually out for awhile here in Culver). Overall, we had a lot fun with Colleen’s outfits, ideas, and her mom who accompanied us. We are looking forward to hearing about how she does in college and beyond. Good luck, Colleen!

Indiana Senior Photos: Kyle Vandeputte

A couple of days ago, I shot Senior photos for local CCHS student Kyle Van Deputte. Kyle is heavily involved in school activities and sports and looks forward to the next phase of his adult life. As the son of Culver’s local Assistent Fire Chief, there are some strong expectations for Kyle. I think he will have no problem meeting them.

An hour before the shoot, I considered calling off the session because it was cloudy and overcast and didn’t look like we’d have very good weather for the shoot. The old joke that if you don’t like the weather in Indiana, wait an hour, couldn’t have been more true. Sixty minutes later, the morning haze and cloud cover had blown off and made for a nice a day. I tried some new lighting techniques on the golf course and was thrilled to get some cool shots of Kyle putting and swinging. I wish him all the luck for a great end to his senior year. I look forward to following his progress after Culver, as he’s a great young man and has great role models for parents.

Culver Academy Senior Photos: Tom O’Neil

A couple of weeks ago, Ginny and I shot senior pictures of Tom O’Neil. His mom joined us on the shoot. Tom is a laid back guy with a great smile. We had a windy day because of earlier rain, but Tom had patience with getting some shots. I think his mom also promised a nice meal afterward. We had a great time shooting him and wish him all the best when he heads off to Chicago for college.

High School Senior Photography: CMA Graduation Invite

Last weekend, Ginny and I traveled to Culver Academies for a photo shoot of 5 CMA seniors who have been friends for many years. Unlike normal Senior shoots, our purpose for this was to get some photos to use on a Graduation party invitation and possibly have on display during their party. It was a warm day but overcast. The seniors we shot were in good spirits, even though their friends were playing volleyball not 30′ away. Ginny kept saying on the way home, “The parents of these five should be very proud. They were five of the most respectful high school students I’ve ever met… so polite, so easy going…” We are lucky as photographers that we get to work with this generation, as we think our future is in good hands when we meet some of the students coming out of the two Culver schools. If you attended this year’s Relay for Life and saw the students from both schools, we think you would agree with us. This year’s graduating class is indeed an impressive one. We wish these five the best of luck in their upcoming graduations and college experiences.
