Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA JV Lacrosse vs. Cathedral

Yesterday, Culver’s second lacrosse game of the day (there were four games in total among the lacrosse teams) was between the CMA JV Team and the JV Team of Cathedral High School from Indianapolis. (The two varsity teams squared off the previous night under the lights on Fleet Field.) Cathedral played a strong game, but they were no match for the JV Eagles. There isn’t a score board on the field overlooking Lake Maxinkuckee, so I do not know what the final score was, but I’m told that the Eagles beat Cathedral by several points. I’ve posted some photos here. You can find more at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_8_10_cmajvlacrosse_cathedral.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Cathedral High School

Last night, I watched and photographed half of the CMA Varsity Lacrosse game against Cathedral High School, which is from my hometown of Indianapolis. Everyone thought that it was  going to be a great game because Cathedral has always been a tough competitor for Culver in the past. It didn’t turn out to be a close game. The final score was 20-something points to only a few. Cathedral never gave up, but Culver Academies dominated on the offensive end. I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I’ll say it again: Culver’s Lacrosse program is a powerhouse that few midwestern teams can compete against. I’m sorry that most of my photos are of the offensive line, but the defense didn’t get much action. I’ve posted some photos here. Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CGA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Zionsville

Last night, the Culver Girls Academy Lacrosse team hosted Zionsville High School. Like the Varsity Men’s team, the girls dominated their game, though the Zionsville team played a tough game. I think the final score for this game was 13-4 with the lady Eagles winning. Ginny likes the shots of the girls, as she says, “they look fierce.” Ginny was an athlete at Culver but never got to play lacrosse, as it wasn’t a sport at Culver in our days there, but I know she would have loved it. She was into running at Culver and involved in sports that required speed and fierceness (basketball and soccer). So, to the girls of lacrosse, a former athlete at Culver thinks you are fierce. Keep that fierceness all the way to state! You can find more pictures of this game at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_7_10_cgalacrosse.

Culver Indiana Photography: CCHS Boys Varsity Baseball vs. Elkhart Christian Academy

This afternoon, after catching some photos of the Academy Crew teams practicing, I went to the Culver Community High School to get some photos of the CCHS High School Baseball Team as they played Elkhart Christian Academy. The game started off appearing evenly matched, but Culver Community had a few bad innings and gave up some points to Christian Academy. I left about halfway through the game because the sun was getting lower and my vantage point faced me directly into the sun. I’ve posted some photos here. Culver Academy Crew Photos: Crew Practice

Yesterday, Culver Academies Coach Weaser was kind enough to let me tag along on one of the chase boats as the CGA and CMA Crew Teams practiced on Lake Maxinkuckee. The weather was nice and the lake was calm, though the winds picked up slightly as we progressed along the shore. The kids had a great practice in preparation for a large tournament in Cincinnatti this weekend that will have over 50 teams participating.

I’ve posted some photos here. More photos are located at www.culverphotos.com.  To simplify things, I’ve sorted the photos into girls (www.culverphotos.com/5_6_10_cgacrew) and boys (www.culverphotos.com/5_6_10_cmacrew).

Culver Academy Rugby Photos: CMA Varsity Rugby vs. South Bend Mercs

Yesterday afternoon, I started my busy schedule of shooting by traveling to Culver Academies’ no-longer-functioning airport at Fleet Field. This is where the CMA Rugby Team holds its games. Culver hosted the South Bend Mercs for both the JV and varsity (or A and B teams) games. The earlier clouds had cleared off and the temperature was comfortable enough to shed my jacket.

If you’ve read my earlier posts about the Rugby team, I must say that two things are changing. First, I’m beginning to understand the game a little better! After watching 4 or 5 games and talking with coaches, trainers, and the kids, I have a much better idea of what is going on than when the season started. Secondly, and more importantly, the team is coming together and playing well…extremely well. For as young as the Rugby program is at Culver, it has a ton of talent. Yesterday’s game was an easy win for Culver. At one point, after one of our scores, I heard the coach on the opposing team talking with his kids. He was being kind and complimentary (as opposed to being upset or angry about it) in telling them that we should be a Division (something) team, but Culver didn’t have enough kids in the program to be a part of that Division. As a spectator, I’ve noticed a huge difference between the skills of the teams playing in the past three weeks, so I think the Culver Eagles are peaking at the right time in the season, regardless of the Division they are in.

Check out how tough they play in these photos. There are more located at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_5_10_v_rugby.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA Varsity Lacrosse vs. Bishop Leurs

Yesterday, the second lacrosse game was played between the the varsity teams of Bishop Leurs High School and Culver Academy on Culver’s Oliver Field. The CMA varsity went much like the JV game played out earlier in the evening. The Bishop Leurs didn’t play badly. Culver Lacrosse has reached a level that few Midwest teams can compete with. Due to fading light, and the fact that I was only able to get shots of a few players because all of the action was near the other team’s goal, I left at the half. The score was 11 to 0 when I left. I’ve posted some photos here. More are loacted at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_5_10_varsity_lacrosse.

Culver Academy Lacrosse Photos: CMA JV Lacrosse vs. Bishop Leurs

This afternoon, the weather cleared up and the CMA Eagles hosted two lacrosse games with their JV and Varsity teams against Bishop Leurs High School. I got to only watch the second half of the game, as the rugby match I also shot this afternoon, started late. The JV lacrosse game was a little one sided with the majority of the action being at the opposing team’s goal. As a photographer, I missed half of the team during the game because Culver’s offense kept the game at the opposing team’s goal. If the lacrosse teams keep playing this well, I’m never going to get any photos of their defense doing anything more than standing around waiting for the ball that never comes their way. :) Please know that I’m not belittling Bishop Leurs. They probably do well against other schools. Culver’s lacrosse program is just that amazing here among Midwestern schools.

I’ve posted some photos here. Others can be found at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_5_10_jv_lacrosse.

Culver Academy Golf Photos: Culver Academy 3 Way

This afternoon, I tried to shoot the CMA Golf Team as they hosted a 3 by 3 Tournament at Mystics Hills. If you saw by earlier post from this morning, the day started out beuatifully. Unfortunately, as the day progressed, the clouds rolled in. I was able to shoot the tournament for 20-25 minutes, though the clouds kept reducing my shutter speeds and I was getting more blur on the moving clubs than I prefer. About 25 minutes into the tournament, only enough time to shoot 4 or 5 sets of three from my vantage point, all hell broke loose and the rain and lightning began. At that point, I made a mad dash for the club house to protect myself and my gear. Hopefully, I’ll get another chance to shoot the Culver Acadamy Golf Team in the coming weeks. I’ve posted a few photos here; others are located at http://www.culverphotos.com/5_3_10_cma_golf.

Culver Indiana Senior Pictures: Connor Eustace Senior Photos

This morning, I shot CMA Senior Connor Eustace in his Varsity Sweater on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee. With nice weather and a bright blue sky, I was able to get some photos with great color. In a few weeks, Connor will be leaving Culver Academy after two years to study and play Lacrosse at Hobart College in New York. Having shot Connor at a few Academy games, I’m sure that he’ll succeed.
